About Us

Connect Reading - bringing together Business and the community

Who are Connect Reading - and what do we do?

Connect  Reading is the business community partnership for Reading.

We broker and manage partnerships between  the  business,  public  and  voluntary  sectors with the simple aim to create a better quality of life for all in the Greater Reading area.

We have an innovative, cross-sector approach to in-kind support rather than fundraising, and provide businesses with insight into local priorities with personalised advice, information and guidance on ways they can help their community. Providing   information   and   expertise   on   community   involvement opportunities   for organisations  of  all  sizes,  we  support  our  business members  in  the  delivery  of  their  corporate responsibility and employee engagement objectives.

We also work closely with our members within Reading charities and local voluntary organisations to identify projects that need business support - whether that be time, resources or skills - and to match them with the appropriate business.

Some of the high-profile projects that we organise include:

  • The Pride of Reading Awards
  • The Giving Tree at Christmas
  • Connect Well donations to the elderly and the homeless
  • Reading RESCUE - the bi-annual environmental clean-up event.

Our activities for members include brokering projects, organising group volunteering days (team challenges) and skilled volunteering opportunities, and managing the donation of redundant resources such as office equipment and laptops to local charities and schools.

How do we work?

We offer a bespoke approach for each of our business members, working with those who own CSR within their organisations, or who simply have a personal passion to get involved - this can mean working with anyone from senior partners to Facilities Management, Marketing and Comms, or Internal Sustainability teams to ensure we understand your CSR or employee engagement needs and fulfil them.

We also work closely with the voluntary, community and public sectors to understand the true needs of the community and to create innovative ways that business and their employees can get involved.  Our service means we really understand the needs of both our business members and the local community - and that the local community can truly benefit from the effort invested by businesses and their employees.

Our Patron - Sir John Madejski

Knighted in 2009, Sir John Madejski's reputation is iconic in Reading as a result of his philanthropic investments in academia, education and the arts.

Of his patronage of Connect Reading, he said “I feel it is very important for the people of Reading - both in business and the local community - to be actively working together to build a better, stronger community. Connect Reading is the vehicle for change; for developing these relationships and creating value for the Reading community and I am delighted to be a patron for their cause.”
