Skilled Volunteering was the topic of our last forum held in June which was hosted and sponsored by Holiday Inn Reading South. The forum included presentations from two different partnerships which Connect Reading had created for the community and businesses involved to grow and work together, both now and in the future.
The forum gave the opportunity to our business members to network and gain a better understanding of how they can help the community around them.
The first presentation was from Ella's Kitchen and a local school, who are in the process of working together to create a project to give the children a better start to the school day with a new breakfast club. By working with both parents and children, they hope to create an environment in which a healthy and nutritious breakfast is part of the school day.
The second presentation was from Hilton Hotel and Reading College who have been working in partnership to help the catering and hospitality students during their studies. Through working with the Hilton, students have been able to gain a better insight into working as a hotel chef and experience the working world after studying. This has been through a number of masterclasses in which students have to replicate a dish after it has been made by the one of the Hilton Chefs. The Hilton has also provided work experience and one student has been recruited to work for them already.
